MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Elvis Presley's ex-wife Priscilla and their only daughter Lisa Marie stunned a crowd of thousands Wednesday night when they unexpectedly greeted fans who had flocked to Graceland for a candlelight vigil marking the 35th anniversary of the singer's death.
Born into music royalty, the singer finally found her voice on her third album, Storm & Grace.
Storm & Grace Makes the Top 10
With the first half of 2012 now in the history books, it's the perfect time to take a look back at some of the best Americana music you might have missed in the past six months. Americana music, for the uninitiated, encompasses everything from folk, bluegrass and blues to traditional country, western swing and even rootsy rock and pop. In other words, this isn't the mainstream stuff you'll hear on country radio, but there's something for everyone and we think you'll find plenty here to enjoy.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (August 9, 2012) Lisa Marie Presley is scheduled to make her debut on the Grand Ole Opry Tues., Aug. 21. Presley's current album, the Americana release Storm & Grace, is her debut on Universal Republic/XIX Recordings and was produced by 12-time Grammy®-winner T Bone Burnett, whose credits include the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack as well as Alison Krauss and Robert Plant, Roy Orbison, and more.
Being the only child of rock 'n' roll's king has kept Lisa Marie Presley under a long shadow, but she's found ways to make her music stand out that don't involve her lineage or occasionally stormy personal life.
Born in Memphis in 1968, Presley was left fatherless after Elvis' death when she was just 9. The younger Presley didn't release her debut album, To Whom It May Concern, until 2003; it and its 2005 follow-up, Now What, were both favorably reviewed chart hits. After a long hiatus, Presley released a darker record called Storm & Grace in May.
Here, Presley performs live and discusses the enormous expectations she faces as Elvis' only child, as well as her collaborations with T-Bone Burnett and Richard Hawley.
